Since it's launch in 1964, the Porsche 911 has established itself firmly at the top of the supercar firmament, remaining to this day just about the only 150mph sportscar that can be reliably driven every day.

The 3.2 Carrera, produced from 1984 to 1989, is regarded by many as the best of the air-cooled models thanks to its blend of classic good looks, scintillating peformance and relatively low cost of ownership – all subsequent models being more complex machines that need deeper pockets to maintain.

Visually similar to the outgoing SC, the Carrera was much improved under the skin with bigger brakes and an 80% new flat-six engine that incorporated an effective cam chain tensioner and associated lubrication system that at last addressed a perennial 911 shortcoming. Driving refinement and reliability were improved with a new Bosch Motronics ignition system, the end result being a power hike to 231bhp and 209lb/ft of torque. Quick revving and torquey, it shot to 60mph in 5.4 seconds on its way to a 152mph maximum, speeds that only the Turbo model could have matched in the past.

First registered in August 1985, this particular car has the versatile Targa top body style and ‘Sport’ option package with Turbo-spec suspension and brakes. Grand Prix White with a black leather interior and 16” Fuchs magnesium wheels, it has covered some 117,400 miles from new but has been impeccably maintained throughout its life, being serviced annually regardless of mileage.

It was bought by the current vendor from Northway Porsche in 2001 and work carried out in his ownership has included a full stainless steel Dansk exhaust that cost £1,300; rebuilt gearbox with synchro rings and two gears replaced; a new clutch about 5,000 miles ago; new Bilstein sports dampers all round; new brake calipers, discs and braided flexible hoses. The ‘kidney bowls’ and B posts (notorious rot spots) were repaired in 2003 by a Porsche approved body shop at a cost of almost £4,000. Previous owners had both top and bottom ends of the engine rebuilt and it rides on quality Avon ZZR tyres with plenty of tread.

Said to be “an excellent car with no hidden surprises and a fabulous everyday driver”, it comes with a current MOT and tax, a comprehensive history file and is ready for immediate use.

Please note that the private plate shown in the pictures will be replaced by the original number, C475 KTM, prior to the sale.
