In 1968, following on from the success of the 1502/1602 range, BMW added a new model, the 2002. The 2002 looked visually similar to the smaller engined models, although it gained extra bright-work and ornamentation. The new car came with a choice of either a two-door saloon or three-door ‘Touring’ hatch body. In addition a limited number of convertible 2002s were also built.

Powered by a 1990cc overhead cam engine, the 2002 offered excellent handling and performance for its day and came with a choice of 4-speed, 5-speed or automatic transmission. In 1972 a more powerful Tii joined the range with a 130bhp fuel-injected engine which could propel it to 60mph in just 8.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 120mph. It remained in production until 1975.

This particular 2002Tii dates from 1972 and has been in the current ownership for some 25 years. The bodywork was professionally restored about 20 years ago when the car was last in regular use. Shortly afterwards the husband-and-wife owners started a family and the car was put into storage where it has remained ever since.

Now in need of restoration, the car comes with a very large quantity of spares plus a genuine BMW factory workshop manual.
