Since it was unveiled in 1962, the MGB has gone on to become one of the most popular and best-loved classics of all and values have begun to rise appreciably in recent years.

A sophisticated design for its time, its monocoque body was rewardingly stiff and it sold well against the competition from Triumph, which carried on with a separate chassis well into the 1970s. The 1798cc B-Series engine started with 3 main bearings, moving to 5 in 1964, a welcome upgrade given the performance expected of it when fitted into an MG.

The smart GT version followed the Roadster in late ’65, the last MGB rolling off the Abingdon production line in 1980, a run of 18 years during which time over 520,000 had been produced.

This particular Roadster was first registered in August 1982 which rather begs the question of what it was doing in the 22 months before that as MGB production ended in October 1980. A desirable overdrive gearbox model, it also benefits from a walnut dash and alloy wheels.

Said to be in very smart condition throughout, it comes with a large history file showing regular maintenance including a bill for a reconditioned engine and new clutch in August 1990, since when it has covered some 16,000 miles.

The current indicated mileage of 66,500 is believed genuine and is backed up by a run of 15 old MOTs. An under-bonnet sticker indicates that it has also been converted to run on unleaded fuel. Said to run and drive well, it is taxed until December, MOTd until July and is ready to drive away today.
