The high-performance tuning arm of Mercedes-Benz, AMG has been churning out hilariously powerful Mercs since 1967. Originally fitted to race cars only, their hand-built engines have now percolated down into a whole range of street-legal hot rods.

First registered in May 2001, this particular AMG has had just one owner from new, Pink Floyd drummer and legendary petrolhead, Nick Mason, who owns one of the finest collections of classic cars in the world, worth tens of millions of pounds (his Ferrari 250 GTO alone is worth over £20m).

A rare 2001 facelift model of which only 659 were made worldwide, it is powered by an all-alloy 5.5-litre V8 producing 355bhp and 391lb/ft of torque. Allied to a 5-speed tiptronic gearbox, it could sprint to 60mph in just 5 seconds, cover the quarter mile in a dragster-like 13.3 seconds and hit the 155mph limiter with ease – titanic performance by any standards and all to a thunderous soundtrack, even without your drum kit rolling around in the back…

The car has covered some 117,000 miles from new with a full service history and is said to be in excellent condition throughout with new tyres recently fitted all round. It is packed with all the luxuries that any self-respecting Rock God would expect, and is equally happy woofling down to the tip with an old wardrobe in the back or thundering across Europe to a gig in the South of France.

Taxed until the end of May and with an MOT until February 2014, this epic estate comes with all its original handbooks, will be serviced just prior to the sale, and will give its proud second owner plenty to brag about down at the pub. Just be sure to keep a copy of Dark Side of The Moon in the CD changer – your passengers will be impressed!
