Barely a day goes by when you don’t see a Morris 1000 on the road. They are such a familiar sight that even to a classic enthusiast they barely raise a second glance.

Much of this is down to the original design, which was so good in its day that even 65 years on they can still perform as practical everyday transport. Light steering, miserly fuel consumption and with a perfectly adequate performance for most journeys, these have to be the ultimate ‘green machines’.

This 1971 example was sold new to a school teacher from Wisbech. The original invoice shows that she paid £763.96 for it through her local Morris dealer, Mann Egerton. She kept it for 19 years, passing it on to a gentleman from Peterborough who in turn moved it on locally to Kings Lynn 9 years later. It had two further owners before the vendor purchased it from a lady in Holt in 2002. It has been in his care ever since.

During this time it has racked up a shade under 70,000 miles, 8,000 of which have been added since 2001. It has been regularly maintained by Foley Auto Services in Hereford and has been fitted with a new battery and rubber webbing to the driver’s seat. MOTd until November, it has a nice clean interior and can be driven away from the sale.
