Since it was unveiled in 1962, the MGB has gone on to become one of the most popular and best-loved classics of all and values have begun to rise appreciably in recent years.
A sophisticated design for its time, its monocoque body was rewardingly stiff and it sold well against the competition from Triumph, which carried on with a separate chassis well into the 1970s. The 1,798cc B-Series engine started with 3 main bearings, moving to 5 in 1964, a welcome upgrade given the performance expected of it when fitted into an MG. Tough, torquey and totally untemperamental, it could cruise at 70mph all day and hit 105mph flat out.
This particular Roadster dates from June 1966 and has been in the current ownership for the last 16 years with only four other keepers before that. The vendor acquired the car from the Bromsgrove MG Centre in 1997 where it had just been treated to a total nut-and-bolt restoration with bills on file amounting to some £12,000.
Since the restoration was completed the car has only covered some 3,800 miles and has never been out in the wet and has always been kept garaged when not in use. Needless to say it remains in very good condition throughout and is said to drive beautifully. A desirable overdrive gearbox model, it also has a set of five wire wheels, an oil cooler, an immobiliser and a battery cut-off switch.
Supplied with the aforementioned bills and restoration photos, it also retains all its old MOTs back to 1996 and has a tonneau cover and a hood, both in excellent condition and matching the red leather interior. MOTd and taxed until April 2014, it needs nothing other than a proud new owner behind the wheel.
