Sold between 1992 and 1995, the 968 was the ultimate development of the highly rated 944 and was powered by an updated version of the 944’s straight-four engine, now displacing 3-litres and producing 240bhp, sufficient for a 0 – 60mph time of 6 seconds and a top speed of 153mph.

Features included a new VarioRam variable valve timing system, optimised induction and exhaust systems, a dual-mass flywheel and updated engine management electronics among many other revisions. A new 6-speed manual transmission replaced the old 5-speed box and Porsche's dual-mode Tiptronic semi-automatic box became an available option. Brembo brakes ensured that stopping power was up to the task and the whole package added up to a superb driver's car.

This black 968 Cabriolet Tiptronic dates from 1992. Purchased in June of last year, it joined a private collection however, due to work pressures, didn’t get used as intended. It has covered 105,000 miles, the service book showing 12 stamps in total, Porsche main dealer until 76,000 after which it was looked after by specialists. The large history file shows that it was last serviced at 98,000 miles in 2010 when it had a new cambelt and rollers fitted, the third in its well cared for existence.

Complete with two key sets with fobs, a fully working Toad alarm and a full set of manuals, it has four recent, quality matching tyres whilst the electric hood works smoothly as it should. It is MOT’d until April 2014. Described by the vendor as in "very good all round condition", it has clearly been well cared for throughout its life having averaged just 5,000 miles per year and comes with a rather nice number to boot.
