BSA’s post-war line up comprised the A, B, C, D and M ranges, the A range being the twins, the B range the larger (350cc upwards) singles, the C range the smaller capacity 4-strokes, the D range the two-stroke Bantams and the M range the side valve based singles.

The sporting C range comprised the A7 and A10 (500cc and 650cc) twins. These were available initially as rigid framed, iron engined models, designed by BSA to be sporty solos and sidecar machines. They were quickly slotted into sprung frames, first of the plunger suspension type and later of swinging arm design.

Bert Hopwood redesigned the engine for more sporting performance and on the sportier models added all-alloy cylinder heads, higher compression pistons, bigger valves, larger carburettors etc. These went on to become the A7 Shooting Star 500cc and the A10 650cc Road Rocket, Super Rocket and Rocket Goldstar.

Coming from a private collection, the example offered here is the sporting variant of the A7, the Shooting Star. First registered in April 1954, it retains its correct metallic green paintwork with the chrome sided petrol tank. A willing performer that is more than capable of holding its own in modern traffic, it comes with a V5 plus a new fuel tank and a new seat.
