Triumph produced their ‘Baby’ model, correctly called the Junior, in order to appeal to the rider requiring a lightweight conventional machine.

Introduced in 1913, it was a 225cc 2-stroke with no kickstart, but incorporating a 2-speed gearbox operated by a lever on the handlebars. It was designed by Charles Hallaway and received various upgrades throughout its production including later models that were offered with kick start and chain drive.

The Baby was the BSA Bantam of its day, offering relatively cheap basic transport to the masses and it inspired other manufacturers’ designs such as the similar American Excelsior 2-stroke.

The 1921 model offered here, registered HT 5414, is an early example of the belt-drive, push-start variety. Coming from a private collection, it offers the prospective purchaser the opportunity to re-create the heady atmosphere of early motorcycling. At the time of cataloguing the documents for the bike could not be located but it is hoped that they will be here in time for the sale.
