One of several MGB models in our sale today, this lovely Roadster has led the kind of charmed and sheltered life that most classics can only dream of.

Built in late 1978, it was supplied new to Mann Egerton of Hereford on New Year’s Day 1979, the first owner being a Mrs Duggan of Hereford who was to keep it until October 1987. It then passed to a Paul Richards of Huntley, Gloucester, from whom the current vendor bought it in April 1990.

A prominent member of the local MG Car Club, he has loved and pampered the car for the last 23 years. Apart from a welding repair to the o/s/r dog leg and outer sill in 2005, the structure of the car is said to be wholly original and unrestored with factory-perfect shut lines and panel fit.

Mechanically the car is also said to be in excellent condition and benefits from an unleaded conversion, electronic ignition, anti-run on valve, stainless steel exhaust and fitted overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears. Inside, the original ‘deckchair’ cloth seats have been replaced with leather items and both the boot and spare wheel cover are carpeted. Uprated Halogen H4 headlights have also been fitted.

Meticulously maintained throughout its life, the car has covered 74,500 miles to date, 50,000 of them in the current ownership, and has been home serviced every 3,000 miles. A new clutch was fitted about 20,000 miles ago, a new hood in 1999, new front tyres just a few miles ago and the car has been regularly waxoiled. Full and half tonneau covers are also included, along with a blue dust cover.

A veteran of many MG Club rallies and continental tours, the car is said to have “never missed a beat” and comes with MOT and tax until the end of August. The large history file contains every old MOT and tax disc from new plus the original owner’s handbook and service log. A kit of essential travel spares are also included.

In lovely, unmolested condition all round, this pampered Roadster is only reluctantly being sold due to a back injury which means that the owner can no longer comfortably drive it.
