Think Gilera and the mind immediately thinks of their battles with the mighty MV motorcycles of the 1950s and 60s and the exotic multi-cylindered racers of that period.

In order to fund the expense of these mighty beasts, ranges of scooters and small capacity road bikes were produced for the general public, no doubt swayed in the direction of these manufacturers by the exploits of their heroes on machines that they could never afford.

Long after Gilera pulled out of the Grand Prix sphere, they continued to produce well-engineered machines for the general public, one such offering being the 1970s Arcore range, consisting of various 98cc to 202cc OHV 4-stroke models and the more common 50cc 2-stroke moped that was a popular choice amongst the 16-year-olds in the 70s.

The machine offered here is a 150cc Gilera Arcore. First registered in September 1974, it is in remarkable cosmetic condition, showing just over 4,000km on the clock. There is no proof that this is correct but the condition and the fact that it was last on the road in 1996 may lend some credibility to this. It has however been dry stored since this time and the engine does not turn. No investigation has been carried out but a simple strip of the engine may yield the cause.

To aid this it comes with a technical manual plus a steering lock key, road test and a list of spares suppliers. At the time of cataloguing the V5C could not be located but a print-out from the DVLA website is included to show that it is currently on DVLA record and if the V5C is not found by the time of the sale, a duplicate can be applied for.
