Sprite

Sprite Sprite Sprite Sprite Sprite
Lot number 13
Hammer value £800
Description Sprite
Year c.1968
Colour Blue
Engine size 250 cc

The Sprite motorcycle was produced from 1964 by Hipkins and Evans in Oldbury under the name Sprite Motorcycles.

In 1965 they moved production to nearby Halesowen when the company name was also changed to Sprite Developments Ltd. Sadly the firm folded in 1971 due to their US importer going bust owing them a large amount of money.

Sold mostly in kit form, Sprites could be ordered with either 125, 250 or 400cc Villiers engines and were available from as little as £145. Available as a scrambler or a narrow-framed trials bike, they were very successful and popular due to their strong abilities and low price.

Thought to date from around 1968, this example appears to be a 250cc scrambler machine which has not run for some years, although the engine turns over freely. Requiring restoration it looks reasonably complete and is offered at no reserve. There is no paperwork for this bike.
