Unveiled in 1968, the TR6 became the best-selling Triumph in history by the time production ended in 1976, more than 94,000 being sold, over 90% of them to US specifications.

Essentially a cleverly updated TR5, it had more aggressive and angular bodywork penned not by the TR5’s Italian designer, Michelotti, but by the team at Karmann in Germany. In the US, it featured the 125bhp six-cylinder engine that was carried over from the TR250, while the UK version had a more powerful 150bhp engine from the TR5 that included the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system.

Refined for a sportscar, it featured pile carpet on floors and boot, plush-looking bucket seats, a lovely wooden dashboard and a full complement of instrumentation. Even in US spec it could hit 60mph in just 10 seconds with a top speed of 110mph.

Supplied new to America in 1974, this particular car was repatriated from Florida in 1989 and converted to right-hand drive. Looking most eye-catching in bright yellow with a black interior it has been in the current ownership since 2004.

The odometer is currently showing 4,500 miles but the vendor states that documents in the history file show that it was reset in 1994 at 73,217 miles so the true total is probably around 78,000 miles. Supplied with a fair amount of paperwork including 20 old MOTs, it is said to be in good, sound condition throughout and to drive very well. Taxed until July and MOTd until August it is ready to drive away today.

TR6 prices have been on the move recently and this solid example looks good value at the modest guide price suggested.
