Launched in 1961 with a rather uninspiring 948cc A-Series engine, the MG Midget was constantly revised over the next two decades, going through MkI, II and III stages before finally becoming the MG Midget 1500 in 1974.

The main distinguishing features of the last model were Rostyle wheels, a more modern interior, a higher ride height and new rubber bumpers to improve crash performance for the all-important US market. To compensate for the car's added weight and to improve performance, a new and more torquey 1500cc engine was now standard which gave the car a top speed just a whisker over the magic ton.

First registered in May 1981, this particular 1500 must surely be one of the last examples made as production officially ended in December 1979. It has had just three owners from new, the second of whom kept it from 1983 until 2003. The car has covered a mere 43,000 miles to date and is said to be totally original and unrestored, having been treated with a Cadulac rust proof injection system early in its life (certificate on file).

It comes with an impeccable service history from new, the original Passport to Service book being filled with 20 stamps with bills for another 7 services since, the last only 700 miles ago. Also present are the original owner's handbook, 19 old MOT certificates, a luggage rack for the boot and the original hood and tonneau cover, both in good condition. Said to drive beautifully, it is MOT’d and taxed until September and will be driven some 50 miles to the sale.
