A new range of Jaguar XJ6 models, powered by a 24-valve straight-six twin-cam AJ6 engine, as used in the sporting XJS, was introduced in 1986 and replaced the outgoing XK engined models.

The 4-litre version of the AJ6 engine, as fitted to this car, has fuel injection and catalyst and produces 235bhp with silky smoothness and commendable fuel economy. A four-speed automatic gearbox, electric front seats, air-conditioning, alloy wheels and an RDS sound system were all standard fitments, as was the classic walnut and leather lined cabin.

This particular car was supplied new by Appleyards of Glasgow to British Linen Bank Ltd of Edinburgh in 1993. The accompanying service book records 12 stamps by Appleyards and others to February 2002 at 78,000 miles. The car was then acquired by a North of England car collector in June 2006 with 87,600 miles recorded. He kept the car for several years but barely used it – an MOT from July 2011 shows just 88,094 miles shortly after which the collection was sold off.

Purchased by the latest owner in November 2011, the car has now just turned 90,200 miles. Said to be in excellent condition for its year with straight and unblemished bodywork, it also benefits from five nearly new tyres, a new battery and new alternator.

The car still has its original Jaguar fitted radio/cassette player and all its original handbooks. Said to drive beautifully with an MOT until July and tax until December, it is due to be driven over 150 miles to the sale.
