Founded in Coventry in 1919, Francis-Barnett quickly became a leading manufacturer of light motorcycles using Villiers, and later AMC, 2-stroke singles.
They were very proud of the sprung frame they introduced in 1952. Boasting 5-inch movement in the front forks and a rear swing-arm using telescopic springs (very advanced practice for the time), they clearly felt that a sprung saddle was still needed to satisfy the buying public that their system would provide the desired level of comfort.
This 197cc Villiers-powered machine was first registered in May 1952 and is believed to be a Falcon model. Still registered with the DVLA, the V5 has got lost in the mists of time as it is clearly some years since the machine was last used on the road. Offered here as a restoration project, it appears largely complete and will make a reliable and comfortable machine when the work is done.
