Celebrating its 38th anniversary this year, the Jaguar XJS is at last achieving the full classic status that it so richly deserves.

Largely designed by Jaguar's legendary aerodynamicist, Malcolm Sayer, it slipped through the air far more efficiently than the E-Type and was a paragon of stability and silence at speed. Powered by what is widely regarded as the finest V12 engine ever made, it mixed effortless performance with superb refinement and reliability. Rated at 295bhp and 320lbft of torque, it was capable of over 150mph and 0-60mph in less than eight seconds.

Launched in 1983, the XJ-SC Cabriolet was a versatile design that combined lift-out targa panels with a folding rear hood and is now a much rarer car than the full convertible that succeeded it in 1988.

Dating from June 1987 this particular Cabriolet had just one owner for the last 22 years. The car has covered only 77,800 miles from new with a substantial service history but was fitted with a reconditioned engine some 2,000 miles ago.

Having spent some years in storage the car was fully recommissioned by Jaguar specialist Tim Davies in the summer of 2011 with a letter on file detailing the work carried out. New front brake calipers and front tyres have also been recently fitted.

Presented on Old English White with a Charcoal Grey leather interior, the car is said to be in excellent condition throughout and to drive beautifully with an MOT until March 2014. Supplied with all its original handbooks, it also benefits from heated leather seats and air conditioning plus all the usual XJS refinements.
