Late ‘60s Fiats were a strange combination of industrial, square brick styling mated to technically sophisticated chassis’ with zesty twin-cam engines.

The orthodox and boxy 125 was no exception when it was launched in 1967. Built on a stretched 124 floorpan, it used the brilliant 1608cc Lampredi designed engine from the 124 Sport mated to a sweet 5-speed gearbox.

A number of Italian coachbuilders realised the potential, including Alfredo Vignale who wanted a stylish, usable coupe to drive around in. Reputed to have been penned by his own hand, the lovely ‘Samantha’ Coupe was the result, taking styling cues from Farina at the rear and using pop-up lights cribbed from the stunning Lamborghini Miura up front.

Just 100 or so of these pretty machines were produced, this rare example needing a total restoration having been stored in a shipping container for some years. Sold along with a spare rolling chassis from another Samantha Coupe, Lot 41 represents rather less than 2% of production! Although no paperwork accompanies the car, its number RVN 83J appears to be recognised by the DVLA, the car last changing hands in 2000 having previously been registered 7 GJH. Sold with an interior full of spares, this major undertaking is being offered at no reserve.
