The Jaguar XK8 Coupe was a much anticipated new model when introduced at the 1996 Geneva show, taking over from the long serving and rather outdated XJS.

The impact that its ancestor, the timeless E-Type, had caused at the same show 35 years earlier was obviously in everyone's minds, Jaguar no doubt praying that some of the magic of its iconic forebear would rub off onto the new car. Designed by Geoff Lawson, who was also responsible for the stunning XJ220, it shared its platform with the Aston Martin DB7 to which it bore a more than passing resemblance.

The first Jaguar ever with an eight-cylinder engine, its 4-litre V8 produced 290bhp, sufficient to propel the car to an electronically limited 155mph top speed. Still looking fresh today, Jaguar have continued to develop the styling theme, the genes clearly visible in the very latest F-Type.

This particular XK8 was first registered in July 2000 and had covered some 92,200 miles with 10 service stamps in the book when sold through ourselves in September 2012. Since then, its fastidious new owner has lavished a great deal of time, effort and money making sure that it is exactly as it should be.

As soon as he purchased it, he sent it to local marque experts Monkmoor Motors who replaced all of the timing chains, blades and tensioners, adding a new water pump during the reassembly. It received a full service, including brake pads, footwell repairs in the usual place, a new radio aerial at a cost of £226, a new battery and a spare programmed key. New brake sensors and front wheel bearings were also included, the total bill amounting to over £4,000.

In October of last year, with the odometer showing 94,250 miles, the car was again serviced by Monkmoor Motors at a more reasonable £881 which included changing the transmission oil. Although sealed for life, experts agree that a transmission oil change at around this mileage prevents expensive bills further down the line and is well worth the investment.

Now in prime condition, this superb example is MOTd until February 2015, taxed until August of this year and is in excellent fettle and ready for the next owner to enjoy straight away.
