“The XKR is a devastatingly rapid car cross-country. In the dry it's got more than enough pure grip for most drivers and astounding traction. Add in terrific seats, a superb steering wheel and great looks inside and out and it has enough appeal to justify its £60k price tag.”

The XK range of coupes and convertibles saw their public debut at the Geneva Motorshow in 1996 and certainly impressed the writers on Evo magazine. A direct replacement for the XJS, the new car used a substantially updated chassis shared with its cousin the Aston Martin DB7.

The standard XK8 was fitted with a normally aspirated 4-litre with 290bhp, whilst the XKR added a supercharger to boost power to a mighty 370bhp. The new car used the second generation Jaguar IRS rear axle, which incorporated rubber mountings to reduce NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), a single spring per side instead of the previous twin spring layout and moved the brakes from the inboard position to the ends of the axle to facilitate better cooling and maintenance. Electronically limited to 155mph, 0 – 60mph took just 5.5 seconds.

First registered in May 2002 this particular XKR Convertible has covered around 117,000 miles in the hands of five owners, the fourth of whom kept it for six years. Metallic Grey with a beige leather interior it is said to have a good service history and to be in very good condition throughout.

Equipment includes: 20-inch Lamina alloys with new tyres all round; electric ‘five flute’ leather sports seats; satellite navigation system; automatic climate control; heated electric door mirrors; traction control; 6 CD autochanger and RDS audio with telephone keypad and steering wheel-mounted controls plus a host of other extras.

Said to drive “like new” with a long MOT and current tax, it also comes with an attractive personalised number plate and is ready to enjoy right away.
