Designed by Alec Issigonis, the Morris Minor debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show in September 1948 and went on to sell over 1.3 million examples before production finally came to an end in 1971, making it one of the most successful British cars of all time.

Initially available as a 2-door saloon and convertible, the range was subsequently expanded to include a 4-door saloon in 1950 and a wood-framed Traveller estate, plus panel van and pick-up truck variants in 1952. A really competent car at a budget price, it excelled as a roomy vehicle with superior cornering/handling characteristics to most of its rivals, attributes which continue to delight driving enthusiasts to this day. Most fun of all was the convertible Tourer model which offered top-down motoring for the whole family at very modest cost.

Dating from March 1967, this particular Tourer was restored about 20 years ago and repainted in eye-catching red. To give it more poke for modern day road conditions, it has also been fitted with a later 1300cc engine which we are told has only covered some 30,000 miles since it was rebuilt.

Liberally waxoiled throughout, it is said to remain in very good condition cosmetically and mechanically with a nice red leatherette interior. Coming to the auction from Ireland, it is said to drive beautifully with tax until December but no current MOT as this is not required for vehicles of this age on the Emerald Isle (the last MOT expired in 2012 and 14 other old MOTs also accompany the vehicle). On the button and ready to go, it will make perfect classic transport in the coming summer months.
