Launched in 1934 and remaining in production for only one year, the Dawn was the last car that Sunbeam made before it ceased to exist as an independent manufacturer and was absorbed into the Rootes empire.
Powered by a 1,627cc four-cylinder ohv engine that produced 49bhp, it initially had a pre-selector gearbox that was changed to a traditional four-speeder on later models. The front suspension was independent by upper wishbones and a transverse spring.
An expensive car at £425, it was beautifully made, as with all Sunbeams, and had a particularly well furnished interior with lovely detailing in the wood and leather trim.
This stylish 1935 Four-Light Saloon was purchased by the vendor in 1999 at which point it was a running and driving machine. Shortly after, it was put away in a barn where it has lain ever since. Recently exhumed, the engine started easily, the vendor confirming that the car will need recommissioning before it can be used on the roads once more.
Complete with its original handbook, it comes with a current V5C which confirms that its very nice registration number, BVM 3, remains transferable.
