Introduced way back in 1970, the Range Rover was so fundamentally 'right' from the outset that it remained in production virtually unaltered for the next 25 years, getting a little bit more luxurious with each passing year.

Designed by Spen King, the bodywork was not substantially redesigned until the second generation P38A model of 1995, which also gained air suspension in place of the original coil-springs. As familiar a part of the British street scene as the red pillar box, all versions are hugely capable machines that are equally at home on the motorway or the school run or clambering to the top of a mountain.

Resplendent in rare Aspen Silver metallic with Smokestone leather trim and sporting the desirable Brooklands bodykit, this fine Vogue SE Auto was originally registered to Land Rover Commercial Vehicle Operations on a much sought-after factory number plate, L122 SVC (sadly since replaced).

It has covered only 63,000 miles to date with a fully stamped service booklet along with a supporting A4 file bulging with service and repair invoices for works carried out over the years. The file also contains 16 previous MOT test certificates, an original bill of sale and a sales brochure. Within the last few months it has been treated to an air suspension overhaul and a new front pipe with twin catalytic converters at a cost of some £900 (invoice on file).

In recent years the car has virtually been retired from active service and has enjoyed a life of weekend jaunts and the odd appearance at Range Rover gatherings and shows. Said to be in exceptionally clean and original condition throughout and to drive beautifully, it is MOTd until October. Given the way interest in early Range Rovers has soared of late (the editor of Octane magazine being a high-profile fan), this low-mileage Classic could well prove a shrewd investment at the sensible guide price suggested.

AMENDMENT: Please note that the chassis and engine numbers previously stated were incorrect due to a DVLA error. The correct numbers are now displayed on the website. Due to the same DVLA error, five of the old MOTs also state an incorrect chassis number but the registration number on them is correct for this vehicle.
