In the 1970s Suzuki became the first of the Japanese manufacturers to win a world motor cross championship.

By 1974 the range of TM machines were failing to reflect the performance of the "works" bikes, so the RM series was introduced. Using this RM series of motor cross machines as a base, the PE or ‘pure enduro’ machine was born, the addition of lights, a modified engine and suspension changes giving the machine such good ability both on and off road that it became an ‘out of the crate’ winner in the right pair of hands.

The engine modifications of revised porting and gearing and a heavier flywheel tamed the peaky motor cross engine to produce a product more suitable to the enduro courses. Proving the success of the formula, the British ISDT team took three gold medals aboard RM250B models in the Austrian ISDT of 1967. The last of the machines were produced in 1984, by which time the rear suspension had changed to mono-shock.

This PE 250 is a March 1981 registered model and is one of the last to be equipped with twin shock absorbers before the change to mono-shock. Its owner was a keen enduro rider in his younger days and has had this machine for a total of 17 years. Although not used in anger of late, it is said to be in running order, but the customary checks are recommended before use.
