The Supra made its debut in 1978 and was the spiritual successor to the fabulous Toyota 2000GT of the late 1960s, an iconic sports car that first put Toyota on the map as a credible manufacturer of sporting machines and now commands a price in excess of £500,000!

More of a GT than an outright sports car, the original Supra was a natural rival to the Capri 2.8i and the Alfa GTV6 but was better built and equipped than either of them. The MkIII A70 version came out in 1986 and positively bristled with gadgets, sophisticated anti-lock brakes and electronically controlled suspension being among the options offered.

The basic UK model had a 200bhp 3-litre straight-six with twin overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, transmitting its power to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. However a turbocharged version was also available which boosted power to 232bhp and 254lb/ft of torque, sufficient for a 0-60 time of just 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 145mph.

This full-fat Turbo model was specified with the 4-speed A340E automatic gearbox. It comes with a large file of old bills and invoices and six old MOTs. It has covered just 51,000 miles from new, the service book showing no fewer than 16 stamps, plus invoices for two more services carried out by Saffrons Garage in nearby Bodenham.

The vendor has used it for several trips to his apartment in Portugal, adding that there are still 35 Euros of pre-paid road tolls that go with the car. Since acquiring it in April 2012, he has fitted a new head gasket, radio aerial and upgraded the headlights and reports that it runs and drives as one would expect of a car with such a low mileage.

Taxed until July 2015 and MOTd until May next year, it is ready to be driven back to Portugal to make the most of those free road miles! With 70s and 80s cars just coming into vogue with collectors, this low mileage corker is just the kind of thing that the canny collector might stick under his mattress. We'd prefer to drive it...
