Triumph had dropped the 250cc models from it's range post-war and while the 200cc Triumph Cub was a suitable learner machine, it lacked the full capacity available to the learner rider.

BSA recognised this in 1958 and leaned heavily on their sister factory’s design to produce the full 250cc C15 model, but still no 250cc machine bore the Triumph name.
The BSA C15 continued until 1967 when it was replaced with the newer C25 and then B25 all alloy motor. At this stage a light must have come on at Triumph and for the 1968 season they launched the Triumph TR25W Trophy which was a basic styling exercise on the BSA B25, but featured a different set of side panels, a different tank and exhaust system as well as a few detail and styling changes.

At least these alterations gave the new ‘Triumph’ an identity of its own and was slightly better than the badge engineering being carried out by some other manufacturers. For 1969/70 the exhaust was tucked in on the left-hand side behind the frame, a new heat shield was added, an oil warning light was added to the headlamp and the carburettor was rubber mounted.

The machine on offer is a 1969 model, it's matching engine and frame numbers showing a build date of November 1968 (P being November and C being 1969 model year, which commenced Sept 1968 and finished August 1969).

This model must have sat unsold for some time as it's date of registration is not until 14th December 1970, a not uncommon occurrence when the British motorcycle industry was losing it's way in the face of foreign opposition. Coming from a deceased estate this machine, which appears to be in good original condition, will need to be subject to the customary checks and re-commissioning prior to use. It is showing just 6,272 miles on the clock but this cannot be verified.
