The Type 25, or 'Wedge' as it is sometimes known was introduced in 1979 as a much needed update to the T2 bay window. A whole host of improvements came along with the new model; every area of the vehicle coming in for attention in some way or another.

It was to be the final introduction of a new rear-engined air-cooled Volkswagen and shortly after its launch got its first major engine revision, a change to water-cooling. This new unit retained its traditional flat-four configuration, a water-cooled inline 4-cylinder diesel version joining the range shortly after that.

Three outputs of diesel unit were available, the basic 52bhp 1,588cc engine could be boosted to 70bhp with the addition of a turbocharger and latterly a 1,715cc normally aspirated unit giving 54bhp was the order of the day.

Very few turbo-diesel equipped pickups were ever sold in the UK, making this 1989 Type 25 TD4 a rare beast. Purchased by the vendor when it had covered just 4,000 miles from Mill Garage near Hereford in 1991, it had only had one previous keeper. The service book shows that it was regularly maintained until it had covered 66,000 miles, the service and maintenance then being taken on the vendor himself as and when required. The odometer now shows just 81,000 miles which is confirmed as genuine and it retains its original handbook.

Although it shows signs of rust on some of its external panels, it is very solid underneath according to the vendor and has just passed its MOT which expires in September 2015. It is taxed until the end of October this year.

Some straightforward tidying would make this into a very smart example indeed, having been well cared for throughout its working life. Bidders are advised that VAT will be charged on this lot.
