Launched in 1976 to replace the gorgeous but fragile 3.0CSi and CSL Coupes, the BMW E24 6 Series immediately became one of the most desirable cars on the road.
Quite apart from world class performance and handling, it had sleek and elegant styling that still turns as many heads today as it did when new. Oozing class and good breeding, it was also eye-wateringly expensive (the same price as a Ferrari 308) and only around 86,200 were made, the majority in left-hand drive, before production ended in 1989.
At first only two engines were offered, a 182bhp 3-litre straight-six and a 194bhp 3.3-litre, but a 215bhp 3.5-litre was added in 1978, all capable of 130mph+ performance.
This Polaris Silver 633 is an exceptional machine that had just one owner for the first 23 years, a Mr RW Rouse who bought it from Williams BMW Manchester in April 1979. In July 1993 ownership transferred to his son who sold it four months later to the gentleman in whose name it remains to this day.
With just 34,000 miles on the clock, it has 21 service stamps in the book, the last only 400 miles ago, and remains in exemplary and highly original condition throughout. All the original handbooks are still present along with a period 28-page sales brochure, unused spare wheel, full tool kit, first aid kit and Blaupunkt stereo.
Surely one of the finest surviving examples, it is said to drive superbly and comes with an MOT until July 2015. With very few owners, very low mileage and impeccable history, it ticks all the right boxes and would be a fine addition to any collection.
