MG launched the handsome ‘B’ in 1962; first as a roadster, with the GT coupe following in 1965.
Abingdon’s new model used a more modern monocoque design than the outgoing body-on-chassis MGA, though the engine was essentially carried over from the previous model. Enlarged to 1798cc, the motor now offered 95bhp and a very respectable 110 ft lb of torque.
Engine specification was uprated in 1965 when the crankshaft was changed from a three- to a five-bearing design. A practical and fine handling car, the MGB in all its forms has gone on to become one of the stalwarts of the British classic scene.
Looking most attractive in rare Blue Royale paintwork with a black leather interior piped in blue, this 1967 Roadster has had just one owner from new and has only covered some 84,000 miles in its 47-year life to date. The body is said to be in good condition with straight panels and good chrome (note the mesh headlight grills), and the new hood is in fine fettle.
Fitted with a useful rear seat conversion, it also has 15" Minilite-style wheels which give it a particularly sporty look. Being a post-1965 model, it benefits from the stronger five main bearing engine and is said to drive very well with tax until March 2015 and an MOT until April 2015.
Simple to maintain and with huge support on the club and parts front, an MGB Roadster makes an ideal all-year-round classic and this one-owner example, in its rare factory colour, looks mighty appealing at the guide price suggested.
