When the all new XK8 was unveiled at the 1996 Geneva Motorshow, it was offered as both a Coupe and Convertible from the outset.

Jaguar had made a school boy error in deciding not to develop an open version of the XJS when they had launched their exciting new model 21 years previously. The XJS Coupe had been in production for a full 14 years before a fully open version was made available, a cause of much criticism at the time.

Lesson learned, they engaged Geoff Lawson, who had also penned the dramatic XJ220, to sculpt the new Jag, its platform being shared with the Aston Martin DB7 to which it bore more than a passing resemblance. The first Jaguar ever with an eight-cylinder engine, it's 4-litre V8 produced 290bhp and could waft the car to an electronically limited 155mph top speed.

Dating from 1997, this XK8 Convertible has covered just 72,000 miles from new and comes with a comprehensive service history to substantiate the mileage. There are seven service stamps in the book up until 2005 by which time it had covered 61,000 miles. Purchased through Brightwells in 2009 with 70,000 miles under its belt, the vendor has added just 2,000 miles over the past five years.

She has had the car maintained by Wills Auto Repair in nearby Tenbury Wells. Bills on file show that the usual XK8 footwell repairs were undertaken in 2010, a new alternator and battery were added in 2012 along with new lower front swivel joints and replacement brake pipes which were fitted as necessary for its MOT in 2013. Its current MOT expires in August 2015 and it is taxed until November of this year.

Looking superb in highly fashionable Arctic White (now having firmly taken over from silver in the prestige car sector), it has Parchment hide, a tan hood and is also fitted with upgraded 18” wheels and a louvred supercharger bonnet along with the usual list of Jaguar luxuries such as heated seats, CD changer, cruise control and anti-lock brakes. Looking at the recent MOTs, it is obvious that the car has seen very little use over the last few years hence it is being offered for sale.

CATALOGUE AMENDMENT: Bidders are advised that there has been a change of estimate on this vehicle and it is no longer being offered at no reserve.
