The Bentley Brooklands was introduced in 1992 as a replacement for the Bentley Mulsanne and Bentley Eight models.

A more sporting machine, it shared the same styling and underpinnings as the more expensive Turbo R and had the same magnificent 6.75-litre engine but without the turbocharger – it still packed a 300bhp punch which was more than adequate for most owners. Fuel economy was also 12% better than the Mulsanne thanks to a new engine management system and various other mods to the intake manifold and cylinder heads.

Suspension was independent all round (self-levelling to the rear) with computer-governed Automatic Ride Control and four-wheel ABS disc brakes. Transmission was a silky smooth four-speed auto. Inside, the Brooklands was as luxurious as ever with acres of leather and light-grain walnut, tilt steering wheel and an improved air conditioning system. Capable of 133mph and initially priced at £91,500, it remained in production until 1998, by which time some 1,208 standard wheelbase cars had been made.

Sold new to Kas Paper Systems through Weybridge Automobiles in 1993, this Brooklands has had a total of five previous owners, the most recent acquiring the car from Britannia Motors in Newport in 2007.

Bills in the current ownership show that in 2009 it had a reconditioned power steering pump, while new springs and a major overhaul cost £2,500 the following year. Four old MOTs are on file along with the original handbook pack, although the vendor is currently unable to locate the original service book. He states that the mileage of 56,800 is believed genuine and it will have a fresh MOT by the time of sale, adding that it runs and drives nicely and is only being offered for sale through lack of use.

The registration number containing the lucky number sequence 888 is also included in the sale and will no doubt bring good fortune to its new owner.

Catalogue amendment: Not put through the MoT in time for sale.
