During it's 10-year production run the Norton Commando underwent eight different styling variants from it's initial launch as a ‘Fastback’ through custom and touring versions, changing from a high revving free spinning 750cc to a larger more torquey 828cc engine.

It also provided success on the racetrack in the hands of both works and private competitors, the most notable success being Peter Williams victory at the TT on a monocoque framed version in the Formula 750 at a record average of over 105mph.
Big engines usually mean big vibrations , but Norton got round this by their clever use of isolastic mounts to keep the power train insulated from the rest of the rolling chassis.

The Roadster version was launched at the Brighton Motorcycle Show in April 1969, mostly designed to suit the USA market where the earlier Fastback version had received a lukewarm reception. The new model featured a slimmer fuel tank, higher bars and upswept exhausts to capture the ‘easy rider’ rebel spirit of the times.
.
Coming from a deceased estate, the 1975 model offered here is resplendent in its John Player white, red and blue paintwork. It was one of the last Norton models before the takeover by NVT and is the MkIII 828cc version with left hand gear shift and electric start.

It is offered in running order and was started on the button when ridden around for the photo shoot. It comes with copious old MOT's and tax discs, a current V5C and an older style V5 and has been extensively used until recently.
