The elegant Pininfarina styled MGB GT was first shown to the public in 1966 and they loved it. Practical, pretty and sporting, it had everything going for it and the public bought it in their droves.
The 95bhp 1798cc engine had enough poke to make the MG truly qualify as a sportscar and when coupled with the overdrive gearbox gave genuine 90mph cruising. This means that an MGB, more than 50 years after its debut, still outperforms most traffic on the road, gives excellent fuel economy whilst its owner can take advantage of the best parts availability for any car in existence, including of course the supply of new bodyshells! No wonder they are so popular.
Built in 1967, this lovely Mk I is in many ways the best MGB GT model to own, having the later five-bearing engine yet retaining the earlier more attractive interior and chrome grille.
Treated to a professional repaint in 2007 and retrimmed and rechromed in 2010, this smart example retains good panel fit. The genuine Webasto sunroof has been refurbished and the engine bay carefully detailed, the car retaining its nice original steering wheel lost to so many MGs of the period.
Fitted with wire wheels, overdrive and upgraded with a brake servo, the vendor reports that on a recent 120 mile trip it ran beautifully showing excellent oil pressure and runnng to temperature. MOTd until September 2015, this tax exempt example looks a most tempting proposition.
