Lagonda announced its new 3-litre Saloon in 1953, the car only available a two-door at first although a four-door was soon to follow in 1954.

The new WO Bentley-designed 3-litre engine produced a healthy 140bhp and was capable of hauling these hefty sports saloons up to a top speed of 100mph. Indeed so good was the engine that it soon found its way into the Aston Martin DB2/4, as had happened with the previous 2.6-litre unit.

Production of the two-door Saloon ended in 1954 and a Mark 2 version of the four-door, with a floor mounted gear change rather than the earlier column change, was introduced. Production of all 3-litre models ended in 1958 after just 270 examples of all types had been sold.

A very sad case, this 1955 Lagonda 3-Litre four-door Saloon has seen better days. Although it lacks an engine it is being offered as a useful source of spares (perhaps for the 3-Litre Coupe earlier in this sale?), or maybe simply for its DB gearbox, or even as a monumental restoration project for those with a strong constitution; it’s down to you. The car is still recognised on the DVLA computer and the chassis number is thought to be LB/290/111. It is definitely worth saving in one form or another so please give it a good home.
