Although die-hard E-Type aficionados will always claim that the Series 1 is the car to have, in the real world there is no doubt that the Series 2, launched in October 1968, is the better car to drive.

Visually distinguished by its slightly higher, uncowled front headlights, wider ‘mouth’ at the front and different tail lights, it had twin fans for better cooling, an all-synchro gearbox, better seats, better brakes, improved switchgear and slightly more room in the cabin. Power still came from the same magnificent 265bhp 4.2-litre triple-carb XK engine which endowed the car with a top speed somewhere near the magic 150mph mark.

The accompanying Heritage Certificate shows that this very well presented car was manufactured on 22 October 1970 in Regency red with Beige leather and dispatched on 10 December of that year to Peter Lindner in Frankfurt. It entered into the hands of Captain G Petrie of Soest in Germany, where it remained until it was exported to Canada in 1987.

Remaining there for only two years, it was delivered to Liverpool for Mr Lee, and by 1995 had been passed to Norman Simpson who began a thorough restoration two years later. This included a full strip-down and a rotisserie restoration of the bodywork and conversion to RHD. Photos detailing the extent of the work carried out are included in the file. Completed and put back on the road in 2003, the vendor purchased it through Jaguar specialists Lanes of Litchfield in 2009 and has enjoyed it ever since.

Stored in a Carcoon, it has only been used on dry days and special occasions. He took it to the 50th Anniversary at Silverstone and as a qualified aircraft engineer has given it the sort of attention that one would expect of his profession during his five years of ownership. It is MOTd until November 2015.

Detailed on the Heritage Certificate as being the ‘second from last of its type’, this super FHC looks excellent value and is wanting for nothing more than a new owner to appreciate its grace, space and pace.
