Maserati resurrected the legendary Ghibli name in 1992 with the release of the Ghibli II.

Beautifully understated but oozing subdued aggression, it was fitted with updated versions of the tried and tested twin-turbo Maserati Biturbo engines: a 2-litre V6 for the Italian and European markets and a 2.8-litre V6 for other countries, operated via a six-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.

In 1994, the car was revised. A refreshed interior, new wheels, fully adjustable electronic suspension and ABS brakes were added. A full four-seater, the cabin was luxuriously trimmed in the finest Connolly leather with a burr elm dash and door cappings plus, of course, that famous gold clock in the centre of the dash.

In 2.8-litre form the Ghibli produced a healthy 286bhp, had a top speed of 155mph and could sprint to 60 in just 5.7 seconds. Production came to an end in 1997 and it was replaced by the 3200GT the following year.

This 1995 Ghibli 2.8 Automatic has covered only 45,000 miles from new in the hands of just four owners. Supplied with an extensive service history, it has only covered 6,000 miles in the last 10 years and was fully serviced shortly before the sale including: new Maserati cambelt and idler pulleys; fresh synthetic oil and filter; Maserati air filter; brake overhaul and DOT4 fluid change; fresh gearbox and differential oil; fresh antifreeze; new battery; reconditioned alternator and new drive belt; new spark plugs; four new Pirelli P6000 tyres and a suspension check.

Said to be in lovely condition throughout, it has metallic grey paintwork with a silver grey leather interior, grey Alcantara dash and roof lining, elm wood dash and door trims and new Maserati floor mats. With an MOT until June 2015 it is ready to enjoy right away and comes with all its original handbooks, many service records and two sets of keys.

So much more characterful than any German sports saloon, it looks excellent value in what is the 100th year of the famous Maserati brand. Keep the mileage low and its value can surely only go one way in future.
