One of two Morris 1000 commercials in our sale today, this handy Pick-up is not quite as it appears on the surface.

The V5 would indicate that it started life as a van, the vehicle having been converted to a pick-up using professionally produced glass-fibre rear panels and rear cab section. Whoever built the car up went completely overboard, stripping and modifying everything in sight.

The most obvious change is the 1,798cc ‘B’ series engine, complete with Weber carburettor which replaces the old 1098cc ‘A’ series unit. Dig a little deeper and you find that the gearbox is also different and fitted with an overdrive. It is also the first Morris 1000 that we have seen with MacPherson strut front suspension, a front anti-roll bar, and servo assisted vented front discs  – even power steering has been added in to the mix!

The whole vehicle has a well finished appearance, including the wooden decking in the pick-up tray and a handy load cover. Said to drive as well as the spec would suggest, it is MOTd until October 2015.

It’s really only the purposeful alloy wheels and the fact that is has probably just overtaken you that gives the game away. Sounding awesome even when manoeuvring for the pictures, this is a proper ‘wolf in sheep's clothing’ and is guaranteed to put a great big grin on your face every time you startle another road user with its unexpected turn of pace.
