The word 'Flagship' can be used by any motor manufacturer with a range of products. When Mercedes-Benz use the reference it means more than most.

The all-conquering flagship S-Class saloons have remained at the top of the tree for many years, managing to sell in high volume, yet retaining extraordinary quality and sophistication. The CL500 you see here is based on that superb S-Class platform, the W215 models being produced from 2000 until 2006.

Using the best technology from its four door sibling, the svelte two door coupe carried over the stunning active suspension system, which links to the steering and braking systems, pumping oil to a series of rams in the suspension at nearly 3,000psi, delivering super-flat cornering and immense stability.

The magnificent 5-litre V8 put a mighty 302bhp and 339lb/ft at the driver’s disposal, launching the luxury Coupe to 60mph in just 6.1 seconds with a top speed limited to 155mph. Costing over £60,000 new, ownership was initially limited to a privileged few but it is nothing short of amazing how affordable they have become today.

First registered in March 2002, this CL500 has covered just over 99,000 miles in the hands of four owners, the vendor having owned it since 2009. Always properly maintained with a comprehensive MB service history, it was recently fitted with new front brake discs and new front tyres.

The full spec is too detailed to list in full but includes: automatic lights and windscreen wipers; heated and cooled front seats; soft-close doors and boot; active suspension including adjustable ride height for uneven ground; active body control with sport and comfort modes; cruise control; front and rear park assist (audio and visual); MB Comand system (satnav, climate control, phone); Bose sound system (radio, tape, CD and TV); Linguatronic voice activated command system; tilt/slide sunroof plus much more besides.

Said to be in very good condition throughout (apart from a minor scrape on the front wing caused by an unknown idiot in a supermarket car park), it is also said to drive beautifully with an MOT until August 2015 with no advisories recorded.

Supplied with all its original handbooks in the original wallet plus the aforementioned service history and many invoices, this luxury coupe looks an absolute steal at the modest guide price suggested and will make the neighbours think you have won the lottery when they see it on your drive.
