Porsche introduced the 944 in 1982, using the 924 as a starting point but radically improving the car in many areas.

This included ditching the old VW engine and replacing it with a new 2.5-litre straight-four that was effectively half of the 5.0-litre V8 in the 928 supercar. Producing 163bhp and with bags of torque, it could propel the 944 to 137mph.

With its front engine, rear transaxle layout, the 944 was a fabulously well balanced machine that had the measure of the contemporary 911 in many respects. In mid-1985 it underwent its first significant changes including cleaned up front end styling; a new 'oval' dash and new door panels; an upgraded alternator; increased oil sump capacity; new front and rear cast aluminum control arms and semi-trailing arms; a larger fuel tank and revisions in the mounting of the transaxle to reduce noise and vibration.

This August 1985 registered 944 Coupe comes in fashionable white with a smart black leather interior with desirable sports seats. In regular light use, it has covered some 12,000 miles in the last four years, and is currently showing some 113,200 miles on the clock.

Bills on file indicate that it was last serviced in April 2013 when a new water pump, timing belt and tensioner were fitted at 110,889 miles. MOTd until June 2015 with only one advisory recorded (slight play at steering wheel), it is said to start and run well.

These 944s are fine cars to drive and this one looks cheap enough at the guide price suggested, especially with that new timing belt and clean sports interior.

AMENDMENT: Please note than an HPI check states that this car was subject to an insurance claim in May 1994: "vehicle damaged" no Category specified.

Late last year the vehicle was given a £700 check over which included new injectors by 'Supercars' in Kidderminster. We are also advised that it had a new set of tyres at the last MOT and that lower springs were fitted by the vendor when the car was first acquired.
