Morris Minor 1000 Convertible

The original 1948 Minor - or poached egg as Lord Nufflield delightfully called it - initially complete with side-valve engine, was a sedate performer but, thanks to delightful handling and steering, it was always a great car to drive.

Gradually developed over the years, a facelifted Series II came out in 1952. It retained the split-screen of the early cars, but was now powered by the Austin A-series 803cc engine from the A30. The 1956 Minor 1000 was the best of the lot - and remains so for those who want one to drive as well as to show.

The larger A-series engines finally provided power to match the handling, more so after September 1962 when a 1098cc engine replaced the 948. Larger front brakes were added at the same time. The 1000s are easily distinguished by their curved one-piece windscreen and larger rear window.

This 1964 Morris 1000 started out in life as a saloon but was expertly converted to Tourer spec some time ago. Owned by the vendor since 2011, he states that the car is in very good condition throughout with excellent bodywork apart from one minor rust bubble on the lower passenger door.

Looking great in pale blue with a red interior and a red hood, it has been fitted with servo-assisted brakes and seat belts front and rear. A new battery and solenoid have also been fitted. It comes with a fair amount of documentation including many old MOTs back to 1985 and is estimated to have covered around 95,000 miles. Said to drive just as you would wish, it has an MOT until the end of October next year.
