Edward Turner’s 1937 designed parallel twin was a thing of wonder in 1937, remaining competitive in the market thanks to a myriad of changes and performance upgrades which took it through until 1963 – a remarkable 26 year run.

All Triumph Twins then moved to unit construction, where the engine and gearbox are manufactured as one lump. An area that was always a bone of contention with the youth of the day was the handling of the large capacity twins. Triumph addressed this in 1960 with the advent of the duplex frame, although not quite getting it right at the first attempt having to add a further bracing tube under the tank later in the year.

The immortal Bonneville was launched in 1958 and was a twin carb pure sports machine, while the TR6 Trophy was basically a single carb version of the Bonneville (half the carbs, half the trouble) while sporting the same engine internals, pistons, cams etc. making it much more tractable and easier to live with.

This lovely 1966 machine is believed to have spent most of its life in Australia, arriving back in the UK in the late '80s. It was carefully restored by its owner for his wife to ride, although she found it a bit too big and heavy. It then passed to a friend who used it sparingly before selling it to the vendor in 2012.

Described by him as a first-time starter, this smart machine is MOTd until June 2015, was fitted with a new battery in June of this year and will be ridden some 30 miles to the sale. It’s good to go…
