In 1962 what would be the last of the Morris Minor 1000 series derivatives arrived on the scene, the (1098cc) Morris 1000.
The new 1000 introduced some worthwhile improvements, the biggest change of course being the new, larger capacity engine. Other modifications included a new dashboard layout, a different heater, plus new, larger tail/flasher and front side/flasher lamps.
From 1962 the 1000 range began to slowly wind down to the inevitable close in 1971. By 1969 production of the Morris 1000 Tourer had stopped, next went the Saloons in 1970 and finally the Travellers and commercials in 1971.
This van version was produced as a Morris 'Light Commercial Vehicle', its chassis number pointing to it having been manufactured in the late 1960s. It has recently been imported from Holland where it has done sterling service providing an up-market 'meals on wheels' service.
The vendor has the correct import documentation and has already applied for a NOVA certificate which will allow its new owner to register the car with the DVLA on an age-related plate. Built in right-hand drive, it is not clear when the van left these shores and although running and driving, it now needs some restoration work to the bodywork.
These little vans used to be seen everywhere, being particularly popular with the Post Office. The general level of abuse given to these small commercials has meant a low survival rate, ensuring pristine examples are now fetching significant sums. Here is an opportunity to acquire a worthwhile project, made all the easier thanks to the cheap and abundant supply of spare parts.
