Introduced way back in 1970, the Range Rover was so fundamentally 'right' from the outset that it remained in production virtually unaltered for the next 25 years, getting a little bit more luxurious with each passing year.

Designed by Spen King, the bodywork was not substantially redesigned until the second generation model of 1995, which also gained air suspension in place of the original coil-springs. As familiar a part of the British street scene as the red pillar box, all versions are hugely capable machines that are equally at home on the motorway or the school run, or clambering to the top of a mountain.

This 1994 Vogue model has the 3.9-litre fuel-injected engine and looks absolutely gorgeous in light blue metallic with a grey patterned cloth interior. It has covered some 113,400 miles from new with a comprehensive service history including 15 stamps in the book and many supporting invoices.

Sympathetically restored by the previous owner in 2012, it was thoroughly waxoiled at the time and has not been used in the wet since. All the usual Range Rover rot spots are in fine condition including the inner wings, sills, rear tailgates, rear crossmember, goalpost etc. The interior is amazingly clean for its year and mileage with air con, electric windows, central locking and electric sunroof all working as they should.

Recently fitted with new General Grabber tyres, a new exhaust and many new suspension parts, it is said to drive superbly and is due to have a fresh MOT in time for the sale.

These first generation Range Rovers are now bona fide members of the classic car community (the editor of Octane magazine being a high-profile fan and owner) and good examples are fast rising in value. This beautifully presented example, in a lovely colour, is just the kind of thing that any self-respecting petrolhead would love to find in their Christmas stocking. It looks a no-brainer at the modest guide price suggested.
