The elegant Pininfarina styled GT version of the successful MGB joined the open-topped Roadster during the latter part of 1965.

Its taller, more upright windscreen blended harmoniously with the fastback design, the taller roof line allowing room for a handy set of occasional rear seats. The MGB was to become the best selling sports car of all time until Mazda got in on the act with their clever MX5 25 years ago this year.

The vendor purchased this well presented example from a friend several years ago. They had spent the previous 12 years slowly restoring the car to be used as a fair-weather runabout.

Originally Zeibart treated from new, the bodyshell was found to be in remarkable condition. The engine was removed and fully refurbished, including a rebore, new valves and a reconditioned overdrive unit. A chrome bumper kit was fitted along with lowered suspension to bring the look and the ride-height down to that of the original pre-rubber bumper model, the car gaining a new fuel tank, stainless exhaust, refurbished wheels and servo brakes with vented discs in the process.

During his ownership, the vendor has fitted leather trim and had the car professionally resprayed, finally completing the car to the standard of finish that he desired.

A large history file of bills and photos accompanies the car which is MOTd until November 2014 , the vendor confirming that it hasn’t been taken out in the wet for at least 12 years!

Available at a fraction of the cost of its restoration, this fine looking GT is ready to go.
