THIS CAR HAS NOW BEEN WITHDRAWN UNTIL OUR 4th MARCH SALE

The remarkable VW Beetle is famous for many reasons, its roots in Nazi Germany, the duration of its production, the vast numbers of cars produced and even its ability to climb up the outside of sky-scrapers as “Herbie”. Every one has its own story which is no doubt one of the appeals of this enchanting machine.

This 1969 example has the 40bhp 1200cc engine and was owned by just one family from 1986 until earlier this year. Although it had been comprehensively restored when the family first bought it, the vendor decided that it was now due for another makeover and has just treated it to a second restoration.

This included fitting new front wings which have been electropainted to forestall future corrosion, a process similar to powder coating where the paint is permanently fused to the surface using an electrical charge. This was followed by a full glass-out repaint in dark blue when the underside was also rust-proofed and treated with a protective anti-stonechip coating.

The engine was fully overhauled along with all the other mechanical parts, new parts being fitted as necessary. The interior was also fully refurbished and new front and rear seats fitted along with a new woodrim steering wheel. To complete the looks, a set of 8-spoke alloy wheels and new tyres were also fitted.

Now said to be in excellent condition throughout and to drive well with an MOT until September 2015, it comes with a good history file including some 25 old MOTs which chart the gradual rise in mileage to today’s indicated total of 21,450 miles. Considering all the work that has been carried out so recently, it looks at absolute steal at the modest guide price suggested.
