Launched in 1959, the Triumph Herald flew in the face of prevailing trends in car design by retaining a separate chassis onto which a body shell and outer panels were bolted.
From 1963 the 948cc engine had been increased in size to 1147cc, boosting power to a useful 48bhp in the Herald 1200. A sportier 12/50 was also offered with a slightly revised grille and a tuned engine which upped the output to 51bhp. Later still the 13/60 made its appearance, with the more powerful 1296cc engine from the Spitfire and a six-cylinder was added to the range under the Vitesse banner.
This 1968 1200 Convertible project was acquired by the vendor as one of his many restoration projects. Offered for sale at no reserve, it comes with a current V5 document and has been running and driving around his farm within the last 18 months.
A full-on project, the simple structure of the Herald makes this a relatively easy car to restore, especially with the wide availability of spare parts and marque specialists to help out.
