The distinctive quad-headlight Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III was introduced in 1963. It had a new, slightly lower radiator which necessitated a lower bonnet line - subtle changes that gave the car a much more contemporary look.

By the time it was replaced by the all new, monocoque bodied Shadow in 1966, 2,044 of the Series III cars had left the Crewe works, just 206 of them receiving long wheelbase coachwork. The extra length was entirely given over to the rear passengers, who had as much leg room as they could desire.

Originally supplied through Jack Barclay, this rare LWB Series III was fitted with picnic tables to the rear - with all that extra leg room, getting to the cucumber sandwiches must have been a bit of a stretch.

Coming from the dispersal of a large collection of cars where it has been since 1987, this presentable three owner example has had a recent service and brake overhaul and is due to carry a fresh MOT by the time of sale. The vendor describes it as running well, showing good oil pressure and running nicely to temperature.

Painted in white with grey leather upholstery, it retains its sheepskin over-rugs and is ready to be wafted away from the sale with the better-half waving majestically from the rear seat. ‘Where to m’lady?’
