Associated Motorcycles (AMC) launched the AJS Model 14 and Matchless G2 in 1958 as new additions to their lightweight range – although with a kerb weight of 350lb this might have been stretching the point somewhat.
The engine had been cunningly disguised to look like it was unit-construction although in truth the gearbox was still a separate entity, being a cylindrical unit that was rotated to adjust primary chain tension hidden behind a cover.
Initial models shared their front-ends with the lightweight two-stroke models from within the AMC group, the CSR sports version incorporating the 'teledraulic' forks from its larger siblings. For 1965 the CSR featured a high compression piston (9.5 to 1) and closer gear ratios, a raised exhaust for better road clearance and coil springs for the valves, replacing the earlier hairpin springs.
This Model 14 AJS CSR was first registered in March 1965 and was found in storage in 2007 in very original and unmolested condition. Subsequently recommissioned and reunited with its original registration, it is said to be in good order throughout and has only seen light use in recent years. This bike is sold with a V5C and is MOT'd until February 2016.
