Launched in 1948 and looking like a Morris Oxford MO on steroids, the imposing Six MS had a dramatically long bonnet which housed Morris Motor’s first post-war six-cylinder engine, a refined 2,215cc unit which produced 70bhp and gave the car a top speed of 83mph.

Costing over £600 new, it was batting somewhat above the usual Morris league and sales were never strong, just 12,400 examples leaving the factory gates before it was quietly shelved in 1953. Survivors are now rare as hen’s teeth and we are told that only nine UK examples are still thought to exist in roadworthy condition today.

As you can probably tell, this amazing March 1949 example is no ordinary Six MS and a vast amount of time, effort and money has been lavished upon it to turn it into the Street Rod you see today. Although the bodywork looks remarkably standard, virtually all the rest of the car has been heavily re-engineered including the fabrication of a completely new box section chassis capable of handling the prodigious power that the car now produces.

Under the bonnet lurks a 7.5-litre Ford big block V8 with Edelbrock headers which has been substantially rebuilt and uprated and is now said to produce in excess of 500bhp. Mated to a 3-speed automatic gearbox operated by a classic Hurst quick-shift, it endows the car with monumental performance, all to the tune of a fabulous V8 rumble from the twin big bore exhausts.

The front suspension is Jaguar XJ6 while at the rear a narrowed Ford Mustang axle transmits the power to the road. Uprated springs and Spax gas shocks ensure that the handling is up to the pace, while massive vented brake discs and high performance callipers bring it all safely to a halt. Monster alloy wheels and tyres (275/60/15 at the back, 195/70/15 at the front) provide the grip to match the go.

Inside it has been very nicely trimmed in tan leather while new carpets, a new headlining and a sports woodrim steering wheel have also been fitted. A radio, USB port and phone charger are also installed and the car comes with a removable sat nav with a large digital speedo display as the original gauge is not to be relied upon and the car can get to highly illegal speeds with deceptive ease.

Said to drive very well and due to have a fresh MOT before the sale, it certainly performed beautifully when we were allowed a short test drive on the occasion of our visit, feeling very well screwed together with no creaks or groans, tracking and handling nicely with plenty of feedback from all the controls. Last summer it successfully completed a tour of Ireland with no problems whatsoever, attracting a huge amount of attention wherever it went. Expertly built, thoroughly usable and properly quick, it looks an absolute steal at the modest guide price suggested today.

Please note, the badges and spot lamps shown in the pictures are not included and will be removed before the sale although the badge bar itself will remain.
