One of the truly remarkable things about the MGB is the phenomenal survival rate. Made in significant numbers for very nearly 20 years, over 500,000 found homes before production final ceased in 1980.

One of the overriding reasons for their continued popularity, apart from their good looks and strong performance, is the fantastic supply of spare parts. A large number of specialists can supply quite literally any component, with a huge range of upgrades available too, including engines up to 250bhp!

First registered in August 1971, this MkII model has the improved all-synchro gearbox, stronger back axle and alternator charging system that were added to the cars from 1968 onwards. It has had just three owners in the last 28 years, being acquired by the vendor five years ago from someone who had owned it for the previous 11 years.

As the car had light front end damage when acquired, the vendor treated it to a bodywork restoration which included new old stock front wings, aluminium bonnet, front bumper, valance, grille and lights. He also attended to any other bodywork issues, including fitting new rear wings, and gave the car a bottom half respray, the whole process documented in photographs.

Mechanically the car was in rude good health and had already been treated to various upgrades including a tuned Stage 1 engine with big valve unleaded head, performance camshaft and stainless steel exhaust with ‘banana’ manifold. More recently the brakes have also been uprated as has the suspension with parabolic springs and Spax shock absorbers all round. Minilite-style alloy wheels have also been fitted (including the spare) along with a new set of tyres. The car also benefits from a Webasto sunroof for all those hot summer days that lie ahead of us.

Said to drive very well with an MOT until February 2016, this quick and tidy MGB is ready to enjoy right away.
